Making Noni Juice

After receiving several inquiries from people, I decided to publish this instructional on one method of using Noni- as juice.

I prepare my Noni by method of fermentation. Fermentation, in terms of alchemy is known as "The Red Stage of Empowerment" and I admire this aspect of fermentation for it's ability in the past to connect a science with a spirituality. The matter used in fermentation recognize three parts-

1. Alcohol AKA "Spirit"

2. Oil (which surfaces) AKA "SOUL"

3. Dead Body (Stems, Skins)

The above image is a description of Fermentation based on Alchemy: wall decal can be seen at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose, California.

Obviously, Alcohol and Oil are what gives life and property to the plant, and so this portion is used as medicine.

In several instructional's I have seen online, reference to cost and time put into their project are included. Healthy living is a way of life and the time and money put in does not equate to the cost of not taking care / trying / doing. In other words, you can afford it, and you cannot afford NOT to do it.

In most cases, I have asked pharmaceutical students and doctors as to what their take is on Noni and repeatedly I get the answer "we only work with things that have been scientifically proven". Not sure what constitutes science today, but when I was in school all you needed was a Problem, Hypothesis (If, Then), An Experiment and a conclusion.

Above is an image of myself as a child with my grandmother, Liliola Taumafavai. She raised all of her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Noni juice and other traditional natural medicines. Her mothers name was Seini Tokiplupe, who was also a known medicine woman in Vava'u.

I am a firm believer in traditional native medicines used by my family and ancestors and I believe that stifling awareness of their benefits is creating a sick world.

ANYWAYS!

NONI JUICE EDUMACATION:

Step 1: Gather and Collect Noni Fruit

Key things to consider: Lifestyle and Location of the Plant = Quality of Medicine

Desirable Condition of Noni fruit: You want your Noni fruit to be VERRY RIPE. White and to the point of near-transparency. If you touch the fruit and it is quite soft and the skin feels as though it may peel off if you rub it gently, this is a perfect Noni fruit for making juice. For those who need explaining: Bugs and Rot are NO GOOD on fruits! Auntie going whack you with her slipper if you use dat kine.

Step 2: Go home, make Noni Juice

Key things to consider: Quality of light & Elevation = Quality of natural extraction. Morning light offer a morning "shock" to awaken he fruit into fermentation every day. Elevation plays a roll in the outside pressure of the jar and also temperature. Ideal containers have an air-tight seal and feature a lid with the screw cap frame separate from the flat top part of the cap. Label the bottling date so you do not forget how long it has been.

Desirable Condition of Noni fruit: Rinse your Noni taking care not to rub because of the extreme ripeness. Place ONLY THE WHOLE FRUITS into jars, several into the same jar until the jar is full. No need to smash fruits. If you smash fruits, aunty smash your face!

Step 3: Let it be

Key things to consider: Fermentation works by building combustion and allowing age to take place. So DO NOT OPEN THE JAR TO SNIFF THE STINK NONI, auntie going fly the newspaper at you!

Desirable Condition of jar placement: The sun helps to extract the essence of the Noni, which is the medicine, and so you want your jar to see sun. Heat is also good. No matter what, your jar will sweat, so put a lining on the surface you will rest your jar on top of and LET IT BE. LET IT BE for 6-9 weeks. The longer the juice ferments, the darker it will be. depending on how well you listened to auntie about the fruits maturity- you may see juice with tinges of Yellow, orange, red, even brown. If your Noni juice turns black, you no listen auntie at all.

Step 4: 6-9 weeks later

Key things to consider: You need more of those same kine jars as used for fermentation. Also, cheesecloth. Do this over the sink because if you get Noni juice on the counter - I going call your fada!

Desirable Methods of straining: There are a few approaches you can use to gently strain your Noni. 8 times out of 10, your fermented Noni will look more like unseeded applesauce and so you cannot just POUR the juice out. BE aware of the pressure you use to strain through cheesecloth making sure to not puncture the cloth. Keep the remaining body of the Noni in a bowl off to the side.

Milk em: Put Noni sauce into a piece of cheesecloth. Twist the top of the cloth and massage FROM THE TOP OF THE SAUCE BUNDLE otherwise the juice drip from your finger, to your arm, to your clothing and the floor and you fired already.

Screw Cap Net: pour juice over the jar after you have suspended cheesecloth utilizing the frame screw portion of the cap. You can also spread a bit of sauce over the cloth and spread back and forth with the bottom part of a spoon- which will gently press juice out. If you do this, remember to clean the cloth screen by scraping out any pieces that fill the screen.

Step 5: Let Auntie know how taste!

Key things to consider: Shelf life probably like ten thousand years past the last Aloha Aina!

Reasons to use; Cleanse, Combat acid stomach/ thrush, Circulatory issues, In place of antibiotics and most of all to test all your rando friends!
