Reversing U.S. Wartime Propaganda - Noni Power

The specific Art Print featured for this week is one of a medicinal food and is titled “Noni Power”.

I have always wanted to reverse messages that have perpetuated toxic ways of being, and ”Noni Power” was my first crack at that Cause. Inspired by a Wartime Poster of a hand holding a grenade, I found the Image simplistic and YET powerful enough to resonate across many decades of U.S. History, even being reinvented as a bleeding heart grenade and used as the 90ʻs Punk Rock band Greendayʻs “American Idiot” album cover.

The noni fruit is amongst the most highly acclaimed “Superfoods” of all time around the world. I and my many many family members were raised drinking the fermented Noni Juice, receiving home treatments from leaves heated over a Fire and smacked onto the site of rashes and various other traditional applications to treat ailments - all administered by my grandmother who was from a multi-generational line of Female medicinal healers from Tonga.

This print intends to speak to several aspects of Daily Living which are in need of Healing and reversal. I will List my 4 main points below for an easier-to-view Experience, along with suggested Reading to further enlighten on the individual subjects pointed out:

1. U.S. War Propaganda and the Toxic “Obligation” to “fight to defend” an oppressive Nation -

2. Food, Medicine & Your Health -

3. Aloha Aina -

4. Perceptions of Power -

I still keep the practice of using noni fruit to help me physically, in honor of my grandmother and to observe the ways in which my ancestors aimed to maintain optimal health which Would be passed down genetically through our piko line.

Amongst all of the things we inherit genetically, this work seeks to malama the very seeds of thought and patterns of self-empowerment that we practice daily - which will affect us and our children most immediately. Letʻs consider the ways that we can protest outside Messages from penetrating our peace within. Perhaps consistency of daily rituals, simply sharing a hug with a loved one or a kind compliment to someone you may not see eye-to-eye with. Nothing is without consequence, Letʻs make ourselves subject to better outcomes.

Aloha,,

Vei
